ABOUT US

WHO ARE WE?

The Institute for Reformation in South Africa (IRSA) is an independent intellectual voice close to the bastions of tertiary education in South Africa that exists to rediscover, reevaluate, and build upon our unique Reformation history as a catalyst for true biblical Reformation in our own day and the future. We strive to equip and mobilize not only ministers and pastors, but also leaders and lay people in congregations for this mission.

"The greatest attack against the true church is critical theology..."

BACKGROUND

Our contemporary time is characterized by spiritual deception, confusion, and a distortion of our Reformation history brought about by advocates of a radical reversal in the view of Scripture. The greatest attack against the true church is the critical theology which, since the European Enlightenment, has undermined the authority and reliability of the Word of God. In the footsteps of historical criticism, Marxism, Feminism, and LGBTQI+ movements have hijacked precious reformed theological training institutions, churches, and our history. Skeptical theologians have a monopoly at most state-funded tertiary institutions and colleges, and do not place themselves under the authority of Christ and His Word. The eternal Word of God has been replaced with the ever-changing philosophies of man. The gospel has not only been buried, but discrimination and persecution of those who still believe, teach, and proclaim that gospel has become a reality. On the other hand, some of our Reformed churches have not always succeeded in avoiding our nation's sins, which include racism, lack of concern for the poor, lack of personal holiness, colonial superiority, materialism, a consumerist mentality, and a lukewarmness in our missionary zeal to those who are not part of our group.

WHAT WE DO

PUBLISHING HOUSE

Our goal is to publish reformed, biblical literature to encourage pastors, church leaders, and Christians across South Africa. Our "Beacons of Light from our Reformation History" series features strong heroes of the faith that fought the good fight in our very own country. Other publications include reprints of long-forgotten jewels from our Christian heritage.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Our yearly two-day conferences are intended to promote and model Biblical preaching and thinking in a postmodern world. Sessions include general talks, panel discussions, and worship services, where we come together to encourage each other and bring glory to God.

EQUIPPING LOCAL CHURCHES

The Institute offers seminars, lectures, talks, and courses for local churches to equip members to recognize and react to secular pressure from a postmodern culture.
